Horizons Unlimited (HU) addresses hunger by providing the only culturally-sensitive food shelf in the west metro serving the urban American Indian population. HU has been offering services since 1952. The food shelf is open four days a week for three hours a day, providing families and seniors with access to fresh food including meats, fruits, vegetables and non-perishables. This means healthier food options for those with diet-sensitive issues such as diabetes.

Food Shelf Hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

HU also does holiday basket giveaways in November, December, and April. Information will be posted on the home page and social media when giveaways are open.

HU partners with Second Harvest in support of nearly 700 tribal members of the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation.

DIW has been chosen by the Diaper Bank of Minnesota as one of its distribution sites again for 2022! The Diaper Bank of Minnesota’s mission is to provide diapers to families in need in the Twin Cities area, increase awareness about diaper need in Minnesota, and advocate for changes to improve conditions for babies who need diapers. As a distribution site, DIW can offer diapers and wipes at no cost to the families we serve. We are grateful for this continued partnership so that we can provide an unmet need to our community.

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid opened a legal aid clinic in partnership with DIW. The on-site clinic provides free legal advice and representation on a wide range of civil legal problems, including child custody, eviction defense, and criminal expungement. The clinic offers services to DIW clients who have a low income or are over the age of 60. To make an appointment with the clinic, talk to a DIW staff member.

Nitamising Gimashkikinaan is collaborating with Minnesota Milk Bank to offer pasteurized human donor milk (PHDM) to the Native American community. These bridging bags are for families with a newborn under 6 weeks of age who are experiencing low milk supply.
